Ebino Kogen Plateauえびの高原
One of the best hiking spots, Ebino Kogen Plateau offers a tremendous view while you hike. A popular hike around Ebino Kogen starts at the visitor center and loops around Rokkannonmi Pond(六観音御池) and back. It is an easy three hour hike with good views of the surrounding mountains and highlands. However, the most extraordinary scenery resides in the presence of an impressive volcano. The Shinmoedake volcano is still active and it is possible to observe some eruptions. Some of them are so violent that public visits can be cancelled. For the smaller ones, it is truly a unique spectacle. It is definitely worth seeing!
The Ebino Eco Museum Center is also located on site. Here you can learn more about the unique volcanic geography of the Kirishima Mountains and discover what makes this area so special by viewing videos, 3D maps and other media in the museum.
If you are staying in Kagoshima city this day please be aware of the time if you want to go on a hike here. You will still have to drive around 50km.
If you are staying in Ibusuki on this day we recommend not hiking here today as there is not enough time in the day to hike and drive around 100km to Ibusuki during the day.
The Ebino Eco Museum Center is open 9am-5pm
