Hitsujiyama Park羊山公園 (芝桜の丘）
Hitsujiyama Park is located at the foot of Mt. Buko, the symbol of Chichibu, and many people visit it because they can see the city of Chichibu and the mountains of Chichibu from a hill. Hitsujiyama Park is known for its beautiful moss pink fields that typically come into bloom around late April to early May and attracts droves of visitors every year. The pink, purple, and white flower carpets spread all over the hill, and you will be overwhelmed by the beauty. The flowers have been planted strategically to make colorful patterns that make for quite the display. The park also has plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, and tulips. In the spring, about 1000 cherry trees, including Yoshino cherry trees, weeping cherry trees, and double cherry trees, are in full bloom and entertain the visitors to the park. Iris and other flowers also bloom in early summer.
The roads are crowded during the moss phlox flowering season, so follow the instructions of the guidance staff. A temporary parking lot (500 yen for a fee) will be set up in Hitsujiyama Park, and you may be guided to it. In addition, on weekends when the moss pink is in bloom, traffic restrictions prevent vehicles from entering Hitsujiyama Park, and you may be guided to a nearby temporary parking lot (the back of the roadside station Chichibu, Chichibu Muse Park).
There is a shuttle bus service from Hitsujiyama Park to the temporary parking lot (Park & Ride Parking Lot), which is about 5km away. The shuttle bus operates on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from mid-April to Golden Week in May. Please see the Chichibu City website for the location of the Park & Ride parking lot and traffic restrictions around Hitsujiyama Park (http://city.chichibu.lg.jp/).
The best time to see the moss pink blossoms is Mid Apr-Beg May.
About 10 minutes by car or 3.5km from Chichibu Station.
