MAPCODE for car park : Check Description

In the Meiji era (1868-1912), some of the raw silk exported from Japan was of poor quality, and foreign countries demanded that the quality be good. Therefore, the country decided to build a Tomioka Silk Mill, learn machine silk reeling technology from the West, spread the technology nationwide, and export a large amount of high-quality raw silk. The Tomioka Silk Mill was completed in 1872 (Meiji 5) with the cooperation of France and became a model for the machine silk mill. The Tomioka Silk Mill received UNESCO world heritage status in 2014 for its crucial role in making Japanese silk a major, international trade commodity and establishing the textile industry as the country's most important industry which it remained for many decades into the 20th century.
