Himeji Castle姫路城
"Himeji Castle" is a World Heritage Site, nicknamed "Shirasagi (Egret) Castle" because of its white plaster walls and its elegant appearance. The castle is regarded as the finest surviving example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture, comprising a network of 83 rooms Himeji Castle started off as a fort in 1333. This structure is especially impressive in that it has never had to be rebuilt despite wars, earthquakes, fires, or the like. It is one of twelve Japanese Castles to stand in its originally built form. Himeji-jo is over 400 years old. During World War II, it somehow survived repeated bombings to the city of Himeji. The main entrance to the castle passes through the Otemon Gate. This area is open The Hishi Gate marks the pay-to-enter area. Although a popular cherry blossom spot, the fall season is also a great time to visit. Some of the trees turn so bright and deep in shades of orange and red, that it almost looks painted.
On the west side of Himeji Castle, there is a Japanese garden called Kokoen which has wonderful views of Himeji Castle. The Japanese garden and the pure white Himeji Castle collaborate to give you a wonderful view. Please refer to the Town map. No.2 pin on the map is that location. If time permits, we recommend you to visit there as well. Please also refer to the photo for the Kokoen.
