Kurayoshi Shirakabe Storehouses town

倉吉白壁土蔵群

Shirakabe Dozogun (White Walled Storehouses) has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Traditional Buildings of the country. There are many buildings from the late Edo period to the early Showa period, and the townscape is roughly divided into two, the townscape which is mainly composed of merchant houses on Honmachi-dori, and the townscape which is mainly composed of storehouses along the Tamagawa River. It is also called "Little Kyoto" in the Sanin region because of its townscape, and there are many sake breweries and soy sauce breweries in the vicinity, and it has been selected as one of the 100 best scent landscapes. The black yakisugi board, white plastered walls, and red Sekishu-gawara (tiles) are a unified and beautiful landscape.

- Parking Lot 1: Kotozakura-Akagawara Tourist Parking Lot (琴桜・赤瓦観光駐車場)

- Parking Lot 2: Utsubuki Kairo Parking Lot (打吹回廊駐車場)

Distance: Approximately 300 meters to Shirakabe Dozogun.

Please refer to the Town map for efficient sightseeing of this site. The following spots are recommended.
[1] Cafe Kura
Very unique cafe in an old storehouse. They provide Anko instead of sugar. Ishiusu Cafee is recommended. Their take-out menu "Kura bottle" is very photogenic and recommended too.
[2] 1st Akagawara Storehouse
Souvenir shop in an old storehouse.
[3] Uchibuki Kairo Observatory (打吹回廊)
Observatory. Not very special but recommended if travelers have enough time.

About 2 hours and 10 minutes by car or 85km from/to Matsue City.
