Sugaya Takadono iron mill ruin菅谷たたら山内
It is a steel mill that made ball steel for swords using traditional Japanese Tatara iron making. The guide will show you the facilities that were actually used in the past while explaining them. The iron-making furnace and building, called “Tatara”, is the only one preserved in Japan in Sugaya Tatara. This area was listed as Japanese heritage in 2016. This has also been the model for the setting of the movies Princess Mononoke and Tatara Samurai.
