Amami Mangrove park

MAPCODE for car park : 337 004 727

At Amami Mangrove park you can go canoeing and learn about the ecosystem through the forest. Canoe tours usually require an advance reservation, but the main feature here is that it is not required. They offer canoeing lessons before the tour. The mangroves' appearance changes depending on the tide and these different states can be observed and enjoyed from the comfort of your canoe. A tour guide will show you how to paddle and explain the ecology of the mangroves while guiding you through the forest. While best experienced in high tide when more of the smaller offshoots of the river is accessible, kayaking here is a worthwhile experience in low tide, too. This is a spot Drive Japan highly recommends visiting.

There is a large parking lot because there is a roadside station.

Canoe tours are held 5 times a day and can be attended without reservation. However, if there are several other reservations for participating groups with a large number of people, you may not be able to canoe at the desired time, so it is recommended to check the reservation status the day before and making a reservation in advance if possible. There are English-speaking staff and guides here.

The tour itself lasts about an hour and departs five times a day at the following times:
1. 10:00 am
2. 11:30 am
3. 13:00 pm
4. 14:30 pm
5. 16:00 pm

Please purchase a ticket at the mangrove building at the back of the parking lot and hand it at the canoe depot. It takes about 5 minutes on foot from the mangrove building to the departure point. Make sure you arrive at the park at least 20 minutes before the canoe start time.
Please leave valuables, mobile phones, and other items that should not get wet in the free locker at the canoe depot.
Please bring your own towels, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and clothes that can get wet.
Since the mileage is long on this day, it is recommended to take a tour departing at 10 o'clock if possible.

Opening hours of the park: 9: 30-18: 00 (last admission 17:30)

If you have 2 days and 1 night, we invite you to explore the suburbs of Fukuoka. You have three main destinations suggested like Kitakyushu/Shionoseki, Takeo/Ureshino and very famous Onsen towns such as Yufuin/Beppu which are worth checking out. It is recommended for travelers who do not dispose of much time but who would not only want to visit Fukuoka City but also other places. However, 2 Days and 1 Night is very limited and we highly recommend to at least choose route with 3 days and 2 nights, or longer if you can. Additionally, it is risky to take a flight or bullet train after returning your car as external environment concerns can happen and can't be predicted. This is why we would advise to stay one night at Fukuoka.
